Glass Beads For Sale

Where can I find large wooden beads for my toddler to string?

When I was little I had these large wooden beads with large holes that came with a yellow shoelace like string to string them on. They were large beads with big holes ranging from the size of a large marble to a golf ball. We are looking for something similar to help our son with finger dexterity. Most of what we have seen are too small. Any suggestions or links? Thanks!!

  1. Try "Michael's" hobby and craft shop or any hobby and craft shop near you. Wal Mart also sells craft and hobby stuff.
  2. I would think hobby lobby or micheal's would have some. You may have to paint them or leave them unpainted.
  3. you can always try any craft store- we have a hobby lobby here- do you?? i have seen them there.
  4. I've seen some at WalMart and at craft stores like Michaels and Joann's.
  5. You might try Hobby Lobby they have tons of craft things and even if you didnt find exactly what you remember but they prolly have something very similar!!
  6. It is hard to find the wooden ones, but most dollar stores sell foam ones now, that come with a big plastic needle and string. My daughter used to play with them all the time. If you have an AC Moore or Michaels craft store in your area too. Also try Learning express they may have the nice wooden ones you are looking for, for just the same purpose you mentioned, they will be pricey there though. Good luck.
  7. Any garden shoppe, or hobby store.
  8. Try a fabric store, particularly in the ethnic parts of town (if you have any). I think they stopped making them because you can't let kids wear necklaces or play with string anymore -lest they strangle themselves *sigh*. Another idea, do you remember those "sewing" things for kids where put the string through prepunched holes? I know the "needle" was probably a choking hazard but you could just make the end rigid with tape or something (like the tip of a shoe lace but longer)
  9. AC Moore is fantastic if you have one of those. They have pretty much everything there and I know that I have seen the large wooden beads there before. I got some of the kids in my nursery. So, I hope that you have one close so you can get some too!! The beads are light brown and some are dark brown. Good Luck!
  10. Amazon.com has everything, and as an online vendor they're very reliable. I've been buying stuff there for the past year without a problem. The links in my source are just a few of the bead kits I found after running a search. I just typed beads, and searched the toys section. The materials are foam or wood, but there are a variety of bead types, and the kits ranged from 5 dollars to 20 dollars. Shipping by ground is free if you spend more than 25 dollars. You'll have to wait a little longer, but you'll be able to get exactly what you're looking for because of the variety they have.
  11. Good for you for working on that hand strength! There are a few places you can find them. First, I’d try looking into teacher supply stores, either online or in your area. I know that Toys R Us has carried them. If you go there, look into the manipulative section. Melissa and Doug make a lot of wooden products. You can find them at Toys R Us too. Lakeshore learning is a teacher supply store that has a variety of bead stringing activities. Here are a few http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/search/results.jsp Montessori n Such as a nice wooden stringing activity http://montessori-n-such.com/detail.aspx?ID=1160 as well as many other stringing/lacing activities http://montessori-n-such.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=53 I love the lacing apple! Discount School Supple also has lots of great lacing beads.
